I made a promise in my last article (“Your Warped Lens”) to bring you a step-by-step guide to ensure you’re hiring the real deal when it comes to a Coach.

Remember, Coaching is the most overused, misrepresented and abused term in the personal and organisational development field.

Some of the biggest names in the self-improvement profession are blatantly misusing and abusing the term “coach” and “coaching” simply because they know no better.

How do I know this? I’ve collaborated directly with enough of them to speak on the subject with authority. And I’ve closely observed plenty of others with large followings and public profiles to recognise their ignorance of this topic.

This is not a judgement by the way, simply observable truths.

To the true Coach – the trained, informed, educated and appropriately credentialed Coach – these individuals continuously declare their ignorance of Coaching, and do the profession, the public they serve, and greater humanity a grave disservice in the process.

With few exceptions, they’re not to blame. If you know no better, you know no better. Only those who do know better, but don’t care, do I abhor.

Here’s why I get so hot under the collar about this: humanity is sleepwalking its way into oblivion. We are an unconscious species. The evidence exposing this irrefutable truth is staring us back in the face.

Results – the life experience we’re calling forth at a collective and individual level – are not what we’d like them to be.

And the antidote to this?

Coaching – in its true and only form.

Not the violated, bastardised, degraded, demeaned, cheapened and devalued experience touted as ‘coaching’ by the ignorant, naïve, unenlightened and downright unscrupulous, but the true art and skill of the most transformational process known to mankind.

See, I have a reputation for being a “purist”… as if there exists other variations of Coaching of which mine is just one, albeit the most immaculate.

It’s nonsense.

There is Coaching, and there are other, far less effective interventions when it comes to influencing to a transformative degree. I’m not suggesting these interventions don’t have their place, I am saying – firmly and without an ounce of uncertainty – they do not compare in experience or impact to Coaching in it’s true form.

Which brings us to another incontrovertible truth: everyone needs Coaching… but not everyone is ready for it.

This is the most robust, challenging, thought-provoking, belief-exposing yet ultimately inspiring, liberating, enlightening and deeply and richly rewarding interaction you’ll ever experience… and it demands the kind of responsibility, self-leadership, courage and commitment many people aren’t willing to bring to the table.

I always smile when Coaching is referred to as a “soft skill”. Anyone spending five minutes in the company of an appropriately trained and qualified Coach will know how farcical that description is.

Which brings me to share how, if you’re wisely looking to enter into a Coaching relationship to transform your business and personal life in the areas where you’d like to experience far greater success, how you go about ensuring you’re dealing with the real deal: that rare individual in this profession who is not only appropriately trained and qualified, but also continues to develop both personally (embracing experiences which raise his or her own consciousness) and professionally within the confines of the speciality and expertise you wish to draw from.

In other words: that skilled, credentialed, and personally and professionally congruent Coach.

The easiest and most obvious answer is to come to me. If you’ve done your research on me, my body of work, and my reputation, you’ll know you’re in the safest and most competent hands in this profession. And yes, that includes the current industry assessment bodies who purport to uphold the standards of this profession.

Given I teach, train and mentor the very best in this field within the confines of our award-winning methodology at the Conscious Coaching Academy™ , and have brought industry-leading training to more than 40,000 people in more than 170 countries, you can rest assured, I have the network you need to draw from.

You’ll find what you need under the “Your Personal Growth” section under the “Resources” tab at https://christian-simpson.com, and scroll down to “One to One Transformational Coaching”.

There, you’ll be able to apply to work with one of our Elite Influencers. There’s a duty of care due diligence process to follow to ensure we match you with the right individual, all will be explained once your application is submitted.

If you’d rather take the risk of going out to the “wild west” of the marketplace yourself, here’s how you minimise that risk to ensure you’re getting the expertise and service you’re paying for.

1: Look at the website, online profiles and social media accounts of any Coach you are considering

2: Short list your candidates

3: Interview every one, making the following statmentes/asking the following questions:

  • Describe what your understanding of Coaching is
  • With which training organisation did you train?
  • How long was your training?
  • What financial commitment did you have to make to become trained?
  • What Coaching profession qualification do you hold?
  • With which assessment body in the Coaching profession are the standards of your qualification independently assessed, verified and acknowledged by?
  • Who is your Coach?
  • Do you have any objection to me speaking with your Coach?
  • What consistent, paid-for measures do you have in place for continuous development of your Coaching ability?
  • What consistent, paid-for measures do you have in place for continuous self-improvement?
  • If you were me, why would you hire you?
  • Where do you need to be better?

This could be perceived as excessive. I challenge you to think differently. There’s a lot more at stake than most people give thought to. Don’t be one of them. Your choice of Coach has far reaching implications and consequences.

If the conscious creation of every aspect of your short, medium to long-term life experience doesn’t already carry enough gravitas in and of itself, the “mere” truth that this decision has profound consequences on your mental health wellbeing should bring a suitable sobering to your mind of just how important – nay, crucial – this decision is.

Take my word for it, it’s one of the most important of your life.

Warmly,

Christian
