I’m writing this article on my 54th birthday.
Inevitably, yet another trip around our nearest burning star brings pause for reflection.
I say “inevitably” as if I know everyone thinks this way. For all I know this might be yet another weird character trait of yours truly.
Nothing new there.
I did some “mortality mathematics”. I do them quite often, as it happens.
Anyway, because of my ultra-gifted mathematical prowess (I’m taking the piss – I was a dunce at it at school and not much has improved), I worked out my old man was my age in…
… 1992.
I can’t speak for you, %FIRSTNAME%, but 1992 doesn’t seem so long ago to me.
If you ever needed proof that time is, in fact, an illusion (albeit a very convincing one) just consider your numbers… and the difference between your perception of years, and what the calendar reveals.
I’ll spend my birthday working. That habit stops this year. I don’t know how many birthdays I’ve got left, but I do know it’s very likely to be less than I’ve had, so bollocks to it, I’m not working another one.
In other matters, I’ve had my reasons for the unusual absence from your inbox for the last 13 days.
One of them being getting a 3 year-old project, finally, over the line and launched… more on that in time. A couple of other projects needed my attention to.
Another reasons for Simpson going AWOL was for testing purposes. Housekeeping affairs, if you will – ahead of a bloody good clear out.
Last year’s initiative removed 27,647 people from my General Inner Circle (you’re in it if you’re reading this mail).
It pissed a few people off… technology doesn’t always get open and read rates right, which is why I’ve done this test.
Bottom line?
If you’ve not even noticed my absence because you don’t read my emails, and you just happened to read this one, do us both a favour (especially as it’s my birthday) and unsubscribe using the link in the footer of this message.
I know it’s counter intuitive, and this is not what people with big distribution lists do, but I’m very in tune with the value of my work, including my emails (which are far from typical)…
… and I’m not interested in adding to the traffic in anyone’s inbox who doesn’t recognise the fact.
Fair enough?
Of course it is.
Same applies if you’ve been receiving my emails for a long time (a year or more), you do read them, but that’s all you do.
In other words, you’ve never taken me up on any of the opportunities I’ve put your way to invest in you, your business or your career.
No point you hanging around if you’re not willing to become a client… even at an entry-level investment.
Given the well-documented impact my body of work has had on countless thousands of entrepreneurs, business owners and people within (and coming into) my own industry, if you’re blind to the value or not willing to embrace it, what’s the point?
I can’t help those who won’t help themselves – and if I’m not your cuppa tea (I don’t claim to be everyone’s – neither do I care to be), you should move on.
It’s nothing personal. There’s no fall out. I’m not being a grumpy old bastard about it – on the contrary, it’s just sensible business, mutually honouring and practical.
